This thread is just to see how much interest, if any, there would be for a meet in the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico, Cloudcroft, to be specific, in August of 2010. We're looking at early August (1st or 2nd weekend).

The temperatures in the area would most likely be mid 40s to high 60s, or, in my opinion, perfect driving weather. Lodging would most likely be in cabins (some log, some regular frame), but there are a couple of nice hotel/lodging houses. ( http://cloudcroft.com/burrostreet/index.htm , http://www.cloudcroftnm.com/ , http://www.cloudcrofthotel.com/ , http://www.sprucecabins.com/ ) There are a number of nice roads through the Lincoln National Forest in the area, Ruidoso is a short drive away, and there is a great place for dinner (and a show!) on Saturday night. ( http://www.flyingjranch.com/ )

If I were planning it today (and I'm not! Grin), I'd suggest trying to get to Cloudcroft by about 3-4 pm on Friday, having a short drive that afternoon/evening ending with dinner (before 8 pm when most of the town closes Yes Nod ). Saturday might consist of a morning drive to/through Ruisodo and back, lunch at "The Lodge" in Cloudcroft ( http://www.thelodgeresort.com/ ), then a drive on some nice forest roads south of town that afternoon. Dinner/show at the Flying J that night, then everyone head for home on Sunday (after a nice breakfast of fresh baked goods at the Mountain Top Mercantile - http://www.mountaintopproducts.net/ ).

Please give me some feedback as far as the general idea goes.  IDontKnow

Thanks! Thumbs

I believe it is technically the "Village" of Cloudcroft rather than the "City" of Cloudcroft. Smile

It's where I'd like to retire, if I am able to retire. Yes Nod Hope the meet can occur and that you (and many others) can attend. It's 10.5 hours from DFW and 12+ from  Houston. Yikes

We're definitely interested.  Yes Nod  Been through Cloudcroft twice the last two Aprils to and fro the Gila Monster and Devils Backbone.  WooHoo  We'll have to check details as we get closer, but count us as hopeful.

My company has a condo we can use in Alto, just north of Ruidoso.  But getting it during the summer when school is out is almost impossible.  However, I will be watching this and scheming some way to go.

IN  Double Thumbs up!

I had a good feeling i could count on you!

I'm going to go ahead and begin some TENTATIVE planning. It's been too long (over a year) since the HRB and I have had a get-away weekend to the mountains. Yes Nod

Yes, sleeping in my daughter's in-law's living room. Anyway, that was _so_ last month. Yes Nod

"Get-a-way" implies, in my mind, some level of seclusion. Grin

Methinks the Chemist would not classify "sleeping in the freezer" as a getaway pops.
